Describes the history of the Music Festival which presented the American premiere of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in New York on 20 May 1846. Reproduces the correspondence between Ureli Corelli Hill, Louis Spohr, and Felix  Mendelssohn. Both composers had to decline Hill's invitation to conduct their music at the Festival.
